My earliest memory of Golden Retrievers came from watching a British TV show called Blue Peter as i was growing up. The show was an activity type show full of things for kids to do like craft projects and games, but they also had sections about pets and the show always had a pet dog.
I was only 5 when Goldie joined the show, and had stopped watching the show before she retired some 8 years later, but she made a lasting impression and thus began my admiration for this most active and energetic of breeds. Blue Peter was the first source of Golden Retriever info for me.

Golden Retriever Info – An Overview of the Breed
The Golden Retriever is considered a medium sized breed of dog, with the males tending to be a little bigger than the female.
Adult males typically weigh between 65 and 75 lbs, and adult female weigh around 60 to 70 lbs. Males stand around 23 to 24 inches tall, while females stand at 21 to 22 inches. Typical lifespan for both male and female Golden Retrievers is 11 to 12 years, although with proper care and maintenance it’s not uncommon for this breed to live several years past this (Blue Peter’s Goldie was 14 years of age when she left us).
Here is a piece of Golden Retriever Info you might not know; This breed was specifically developed to retrieve game and wildfowl during hunts in Scotland during the 1860′s. Better guns were being developed at the time meaning more game was being shot, at greater distances, and in rougher terrain during hunts. The result of this was that many birds were being lost because they simply couldn’t be found.
The ingenious Scots worked on breeding a retriever suited specifically to retrieving the game they were losing, and over time managed to cross a yellow-colored retriever with a Tweed Water Spaniel, and thus was the birth of the modern Golden Retriever.
